The "Save the Tile" Kitchen
The client on the renovation of this small kitchen had one stipulation; the existing splash tile, which had been hand painted by a local artist, must be saved. A delicate task, given the demolition of the old cabinets, counters, and an entire wall. We were successful, even cutting out a section of tile and the drywall behind it and putting it into a picture frame (see “after 3”), and as a result, this client has a much more open kitchen, a much prettier kitchen, and still has her beloved splash tile. The floor is sheet linoleum, just like in the old days. The corner farmhouse sink gives more counter space, and the counter seating instead of a wall really opens things up!
